Coding of Vessels for Commercial Use

​We can provide MCA Coding for any type of vessel. Our coding is carried out through the Society of Consulting Marine Engineers & Ship Surveyors (SCMS). This a a Certifying Authority operating under licence from the Maritime & Coastguard Agency and we act as nominated examiners on their behalf. The general categories are as follows:

-Sailing Vessels & Motor Vessels under 24 Meters for Charter Purposes. 

​

- Fit for Purpose: ( Generally Vessels of any size that operate in up to Category D Waters or below but do not fall within general coding)

​

-Simple Small Commercial Vessels under 24 meters: (Do not require any specific coding other than commercial use)

​

-Complex Small Commercial Vessels under 24 Meters:  ( Vessels with cranes or lifting gear or engaged in towing,  pilot vessels or police boats)

​

-Heel & Incline tests for stability purposes.

​

-Tonnage Measurement:  (Covered in more detail under the tonnage measurement section).
